Scooter Headsets
Scooters can come with 2 different types of Headsets, Threaded (most common in scooters under £150) and Threadless (£150+). Most entry level to mid-range Scooters such as the MADD Gear Pro (MGP) Team Edition and VX2 range all have Threaded headsets. This type of headset will require regular maintenance to make sure it is tight and in proper working order. If you ignore this and ride your scooter with a loss headset, which means your bars will rock back and forth this will more than likely damage the forks and the bearings in the headset, such damage will not be covered by your manufactures warranty. Rampworx strongly recommend regularly maintaining your Scooter, a quick tighten up now and then will increase the life span of your scooter.
Scooter Wheels
Scooter wheels have metal ball bearings inside them 1 either side of the wheel, this is what makes your wheels spin around. Bearings come in a variety of speeds ABEC 3, 5, 7 & 9 being the fastest. If you ride your scooter in the rain or leave it outside overnight your bearings will rust! If your bearings rust then your wheels will not spin around, which means you will have to buy new bearings. When fitting your bearings you must make sure they are perfectly flat with the wheel and that they also have a spacer in-between the bearings to relieve friction, if these methods are applied your wheels will last you a very long time.
Please Note, do not use WD40 in your bearings, they will clog them up and become heavy and seize.
